12×12 at Artspace MAGQ and Open Studio at Blu Moon Studio of Art

// April 4th, 2010 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

School was out this week and although it was quiet at Blu Moon it was a busy week for me. On Friday, April 26 I introduced three new works at the group show 12×12at Artspace MGQ. This was a great show, and the format for the work was 12″x12″ digitally produced  work… an interesting premise with great results. The range of interpretation among the participating artists was very intriguing, and the presentation of the show, a “mosaic’ of lined up 12×12 inch images was very effective. I was very pleased with the series I created for this show.. entitled ” Nirvana”, consisting of three digital prints that I reworked with   acrylic paint, silver leaf and colored pencil. Titled “Compassion” , ” Enigma”, and ” Dharma”, I think the three worked very well. On the evening of Saturday,March 3, I opened the doors of Blu Moon Studio for the first Saturday Gallery walk in the Grove. Along with my original artwork and giclee prints, I displayed examples of work created by my students in myadult acrylic painting class, my Portfolio preparation class, as well as my Mixed Media class for kids age 7-12. My visitors were given a tour of my beautiful art studio and enjoyed a glass of wine (or two) and some pleasant company. This will be an on-going event, and I hope to have some interesting exhibits and happenings as the year goes on.

“Stuffed Fish” in mixed media for kids class at Blu Moon!

// March 27th, 2010 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

I always try to add an element of fun to the art projects that we do in my Mixed Media class for kids… along with teaching the basics of good craftsmanship, design principals and plain ole drawing skills, I always try to encourage kids to express their natural creativity in ways that will pique their interest and produce works that they will be proud to call their own. Today we finished up our Carousel horse project and will soon be creating ” stuffed fish” using newspaper, paint ,and of course, glitter and sequins to create whimsical little paper sculptures. I know I will love the results ! I will post them for you when they are done…
peace and creativity

Portfolio Prep. students getting ready for Auditions!

// January 25th, 2010 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

The time has come for auditions for entry into Miami Art Magnet Programs at :-P schools such as Southwood Middle School, Robert Morgan, D.A.S.H., and New World School of the Arts ….My Portfolio Prep. students have been working very hard on preparing the required pieces for these important auditions. As always, it gets pretty intense at this time , with the pressure of getting their best work completed in time. I have to say, they are rising to the occasion, and I am impressed with their focus, dedication and creative ability. I really enjoy working with them, and it is very rewarding for me to help them achieve their goals.  I have had many years of experience doing Portfolio Prep. classes, and I am very pleased to say a majority of my students get into the schools of their choice. It is wonderful to see their work evolve during the time they work with me. But the story doesn’t end with the auditions. It is my intention to prepare them technically and mentally for the programs they will be entering, so I foster independent, critical aesthetic judgment, technical ability and guide them in being able to apply the principals they learn with me. I feel it is most beneficial to the student to work with me over a period of time in order for them to really absorb these concepts, as well as to have sufficient time to create their best possible work. I feel we are really blessed with these great art magnet programs here in Miami, and that over the years, graduates of these programs will be among the cream of the crop in the art world. I am really pleased to be able to participate in building the future of American art.Please contact me if you have a student that is interested in preparing for these auditions, and remember, it is not too soon to start getting ready for 2011!
