Blu Moon Studio is calling all artists in the south Fl. area to participate in ” The Sketchbook Extravaganza” here at Blu Moon on Sat. Sept.3 as part of Coconut Grove’s First Saturday Gallery Walk . If you keep a sketchbook ( or many) bring them to share… and enjoy an evening of music , wine and creative camaraderie… The event will be open to the public, and is a chance for people to get to know you and your work, without the hassle and expense of an exhibit. This will be a one night only event… you will take your books home with you at the end of the evening… from 7-10 p.m. Sat. Sept. 3

Summer Art Classes

Summer is just around the corner… and there will be long , lazy days… with your kids saying ” I”M BORED” !!!!! I have a solution for you…. great art classes for kids from the age of 7 to 18 ….. I have mixed media/ portfolio prep. classes, and your child will learn the fundamentals of art, and have a great time too… we will be working in a variety of media, such as pastel, watercolor and paper mache, and explore the styles and techniques of different artists and cultures. And if your student is planning on auditioning for elementary, middle and ESPECIALLY high school Art Magnet school programs such as D.A.S.H. or New World I strongly suggest that they begin to prepare NOW ! The auditions have gotten increasingly competitive, and great preparation is the best way to get in. I am happy to say that I have had a very good number of my portfolio prep. students get into the school of their choice, but proper preparation is crucial, and it takes time to develop. Blu Moon Studio of Art celebrated the creative work of my wonderful students at the Opening Reception of my Second Annual Student Art Exhibition on Saturday, May 14. I was very proud to showcase the work that we have created here in the past year… from the young artist’s gallery to my adult students. My Middle school and high school Portfolio Prep. students brought in their best pieces, and amazed everyone with their skills. My young artists , age 7-10 were thrilled to see their colorful art hanging in their very own gallery…. everyone had a great time, and I was happy to share all the beautiful art that I see every day here at Blu Moon Studio… I hope you will stop by! Great Art Schools in Miami

There are many great art schools for young, aspiring artists to choose from in Miami… D.A.S.H., New World School of the Arts,

and several other schools offer excellent programs in visual arts. Attending these art magnet programs offers young students a

head start in their art educations, and they will be well prepared long before they go on to study art in college or start a career

. These programs are also getting increasingly competitive, and a student must be well prepared to qualify for the auditions.

Many schools have significantly cut back on their art programs, which leaves many students at a disadvantage when trying to prepare art portfolios for magnet school auditions. At Blu Moon Studio, I specialize in preparing students for the art magnet auditions. I work collaboratively with the students to create the required pieces, and I supervise their sketchbooks. Along with these practical matters, I offer support and guidance through the

portfolio prep. process and have them do trial runs of the audition exercises. I have found these preparation months to be very rewarding

and the students form a very strong bond with each other as they work together on their goals. I highly recommend that any student aspiring for these auditions

take additional classes, whether at Blu Moon or another choice. I offer my Portfolio Prep. classes for highschool and college on Tuesday,

Blu Moon Studio is 2 years old!!!! Time flies… and this has been a time of steep learning curves, great joys and deep fears…

I have had to dig deep to meet the many challenges I have faced in creating something from the ground up and maintaining a balance in all the different aspects of my life. Not an easy task, but a very rewarding one! I will remain dedicated to pursuing my own creative visions and providing the best guidance that I possibly can to those that come to me to pursue theirs. I hope when you consider all the art schools in Miami, that you will give Blu Moon Studio a try. I offer classes in painting and drawing for students age 7 to adult. I specialize in PORTFOLIO PREPARATION for students who want to audition for the art magnet programs in Miami, such as DASH, New World School of the Arts and others. And by the way, the time to start preparing is NOW! As I said before , time flies, and it is very important that students have enough timeto prepare for these very competitve auditions… Applications for the Art Magnet programs will be available soon… so if you are planning on auditioning, please stop by my studio to see what I can offer. Mandala Experience Workshop at Blu Moon

“I took Sheri’s Mandala Workshop and what happened was amazing – it really sparked my natural creativity and set me up for a whole adventure into the world of Mandalas and on into other things too. I would really encourage anyone, whether a confident artist or a beginner to take this workshop”- Joni

This all -inclusive workshop is a daylong exploration of the art of the Mandala with Sheri acting as your guide.

There will be a vegetarian lunch with a puja ceremony to nurture your body, and to conclude our day, there will be a not -to -be missed Chakra healing session performed with the accompaniment of a Didgeridoo to nurture your spirit.

On Saturday, Aug.7 there will be an exhibit of your Mandalas and the Mandalas of Sheri Friedman and Peter Barreda.
