One of the things I am most grateful for in my life is me ability to create, an ability I share with every other person on this planet, just by virtue of being human. For me , in fact, the ability and desire to create is one of the defining points of what makes us human, and the appreciation of others creative efforts is an acknowledgement of the shared experiences of being human. Creative expression takes a myriad of forms and is endlessly and continuously manifesting and expanding with each creators unique views and expression of our collective and personal experiences. Creative expression is not only food for the soul of the creator, but its outward flow nourishes and sustains the whole of society. Cultures are defined by their creative output..their music, their cuisine , architecture, dance and painting. A healthy and vigorous society nurtures and encourages creative expression, and recognizes it’s value. How sad then, at this moment in time, we are seeing a diminishment of the importance of creative expression, subjugating it to the level of an afterthought, or a luxury to be indulged in after the more important business of living is done, as if it ever is. Schools cut art programs, funding dissappears for symphonies, and the list goes on and on. In “hard times” creative activities come to be regarded as superfluous and non -nessesities. The result can only be a dessicated and soul-less environment that strives only for mere survival. It is vitally important in times such as these to maintain our connection to the life affirming act of creative expression and insist on a wholistic and balanced society where the practical and the fanciful work in support of each other.

Hi Everybody..! Well, like everyone else, I am trying to get thru the dog dayzz of summer .. I have been bunkered in my studio , painting, teaching my classes, and planning for upcoming events here at my Blu Moon Studio. Next Friday , July 31st , I will be hosting my monthly Art Happy Hour from 6 – whenever we get tired of making ATC’s and eating cupcakes. This months project is Artist’s Trading Cards or ATC’s.. these are mini works of art done on 2.5×3.5″ card stock, and must be able to fit into the sleeve of a collectible card holder. Other than that, there are no rules…any medium, material or image can be used. The pieces are signed, dated and numbered and kept or exchanged with other ATC artists. There are many websites that explain and show examples of these addictive little darlings. And speaking of addictive little darlings, I will be serving Mishas cupcakes, along with pink lemonade and delightfully bubbly Cava. Hows that for inspiration?? All materials will be provided, but if you have little bits and pieces of “stuff” like old cards, stamps, etc. feel free to bring them to share. All this for a mere $10 or a $5 donation if you just want to come and supervise..

I am almost finished with my tryptich based on the theme of compassion. I am really psyched about this, and I really like the direction the series is taking.. I hope to spin off two or three other paintings from the initial series, and see where that goes. Many thanks to my students who inspire, and teach me.

Hello out there.. I am going to be posting some upcoming workshops tomorrow..please check them out!

Jerry’s Artarama was a pleasant surprise…I’ve been hearing about it and decided to check it out today. I got some great deals on oil paints…99 cents a tube for a brand called Soho Urban artists, never tried them but for 99 cents it’s worth a shot… lots of other goodies and really good prices!
